Who are National Grid Electricity Transmission?

We own and maintain the high-voltage electricity transmission network in England and Wales. Every time a phone is plugged in, or a switch is turned on, we’ve played a part, connecting you to the electricity you need.

We take electricity generated from wind, solar and other power sources and transport it through our network of pylons, overhead lines, cables, and substations. It then goes on to power large customers that are directly connected to our network such as large data centres, or on to separate lower voltage local distribution networks, which connect directly to homes and businesses.

Social & Environmental Action Plan

We do the right thing, serving our customers and consumers as affordably as we can, with safety first and reliability top of mind. We're investing for the future, connecting more and more home grown low carbon electricity to our network and ensuring our infrastructure is ready to serve changing customer needs such as data centres and electrified heating and transport.

It’s a crucial role and is pivotal in turning the UK’s growth ambitions into reality, supporting jobs and future-proofing our regions and nations for decades to come.

Our Social and Environmental Action Plan sets out how we will support the ongoing transition to a cleaner, fairer and more resilient energy system over the next five years.
